A large round of applause broke out at the Howdy, Modi event in Houston, Texas when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "Abki Baar, Trump Sarkar."
Welcoming Trump, PM Modi said, "We have met a few times, and every time he has been the same warm, friendly, energetic and accessible. I admire him also for his sense of leadership and passion for America."
Addressing over 50,000 Indian-Americans at the NRG stadium, Modi said it was honour and privilege for him to welcome Trump in this magnificent stadium and magnificent gathering.
"We in India connected well with President Trump and with the words of candidate Trump, 'Abki Baar, Trump Sarkar', rang loud and clear," PM Modi added.
Describing Trump as a "special person", PM Modi added that he admired the US president for his "sense of leadership, passion for America and concern for every American."
Trump also shared the same affection for PM Modi when he arrived on stage for his speech. He said, "Trump describes PM Modi as America's greatest, most loyal friend; says he is doing an exceptional job for India."
"Under PM Modi the world is witnessing a strong, thriving and sovereign India," Trump added.
The US president also wished a belated birthday to PM Modi, who turned 69 last week. After Trump's address, PM Modi will again arrive on stage for his address to the 50,000-plus people attending the historic event in Texas.
Organised by the non-profit Texas India Forum, the event, with the tagline 'Shared Dreams, Bright Futures', will shine a light on the tremendous contribution of Indo-Americans in the United States and the strong and lasting partnership between the US and India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday made a veiled attack on Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan with United States President Donald Trump in the audience at the 'Howdy, Modi' event in Houston.
Without naming Pakistan, PM Narendra Modi said that the move to scrap provisions under Article 370 bothered only those who "cannot even take care of their own country".
"Some people have a problem with the abrogation of Article 370, these are the same people who cannot govern their own country," PM Narendra Modi said.
PM Modi said that the same people who are bothered by the Indian government's decision to scrap the provisions under Article 370 are the same ones who "shield terrorism and nurture it".
The J&K people were deprived of the rights that have been granted to the rest of the country. Terror and separatist elements were misusing the situation and Article 370 and India purged it. Now, the people in J&K have got equal rights," PM Narendra Modi said.
Article 370 had deprived people in J&K of progress, development, PM Modi said, adding, "We have said goodbye to it".
